AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF BRANDON TO IMPOSE ADDITIONAL COURT COSTS IN MISDEMEANOR CASES THE AVAILS OF WHICH SHALL BE USED TO FUND THE PURCHASE OF PROTECTIVE BODY ARMOR FOR MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Brandon are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on the minutes of the governing authorities, to levy additional court costs in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor filed in municipal court of such municipality.

(2) The avails of any additional court costs imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be expended by the municipality solely to fund the purchase of protective body armor for police officers of the municipality.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
